Shamire Young, 20, could face up to 25 years in federal prison.
Prosecutors said a driver stopped at a Wissahickon Avenue gas station early in the morning on March 11, leaving a passenger behind as he walked into the store.
While the car was parked, authorities said Young and two other men approached with handguns and ordered the passenger to hide in a nearby cluster of trees.
The driver was ordered to do the same when he returned, officials wrote.
Investigators believe Young and his suspected accomplices assaulted at least one of the victims before driving off in both cars.
Using a tracker installed by the car dealership, police traced the stolen vehicle to the Kingsessing neighborhood. A forensic analysis of the car identified Young as one of the hijackers, authorities said.
“Our office is committed to supporting the Philadelphia Police Department in its work to investigate and deter violent crime, which includes our partnership on the joint carjacking task force,” said US Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero.
“If you commit a violent offense like a gunpoint carjacking, federal authorities will soon be knocking at your door.”
